What Really Goes On In The Stage Crew

Stage Crew is one of the most important parts of the College Dramas. The Stage Crew make all of the sets that are used in every one of the four plays that happen in the College every year.

The recent Peter Pan, was hailed as one of the best First Year play sets ever, and greatly outshone the relatively poor Lord of the Rings scenenery.  The stage crew (try to) make sure the cast stays quiet in the wings and that the scenery comes out at the right time.  It can be extremely stressful, and the pressure resulted in Gaz, ex-Stage Manager, quitting after Lord of the Rings.  It is often difficult to get real work in as there's a lack of senior members within it.

Every Saturday, and sometimes after school, the stage crew meet at the school and construct the sets. The work is often hard and there's usually no reward, except possibly personal satisfaction.  I may appear harsh, but in all fairness, First and Second Years (the bulk of the stage crew), often do no work and just mess about, which is great for them, but not for the lads who have to do their work.

Anyone interested should talk to Stephen Mahady in Syntax Kenney or Mark Molony in Syntax Aylmer, or just show up on a Saturday at 10.00 a.m.
